I do not consider the Guild Wars to be a high-end game , at least not the graphics engine, as my two years old Radeon 9700 Pro can run with anti-aliasing on and everything is still so smoooth. Sure, that card was the best at that time, but it's just two years and it's breath is going out ... slowly, but it does.
When I said top notch I referred to Far Cry, Doom3, Half-Life2, Tribes: Vengeance just to name a few.
My point was - If the trend to offload physics calculation to a dedicated processing unit goes well, then the only single bottleneck for games will be the GPU. And no card will IMHO be able to display the newest games as they were ment to be displayed in three years.
I say "as they were ment to be displayed" because you can even run Doom3 on Voodoo 2 graphics cards, but the result is ... unsatisfying. Sure, Voodoo 2 is more than three years off, but you get the idea
To sum up: I would expect the GPU to last 2 years max in the "Show me the eyecandy" mode (1024x768+ with AA & AF)
